Notes
A slide investigation was conducted on March 27, 2023 in response to a notification received by OSMRE. The slide area begins on the outslope of the road and embankment of pond 103. At the pond a 315 ft wide segment of the road outslope slid 30 ft down the slope before settling on an old roadbed, leaving a 30 ft sheer face on the outslope. A 100 ft wide section of the right descending side of the landslide continued to move past the roadbed and down the slope until it reached a jurisdictional water feature that has been impounded into cells by beavers. The landslide created a delta 100 ft wide and extending thirty feet into the feature, with material accumulations reaching a depth of four ft along the bank of the feature and thinning as the material extended into the water. The slide’s length from the road to the jurisdictional feature is 350 ft. Along with material accumulations being deposited into the feature, the sediment entering the feature was creating a color contrast of the feature. This feature drains into Hogcamp Branch, which is listed on the TDEC 2022 303(d) list of impaired waters as impaired for sedimentation/siltation due to impacts from abandoned mine lands.
