Notes
Referred Mr. Yoder to Henry County NRCS for assistance in evaluating the projected settling of levees, sludge build-up and setting the pump marker to verify freeboard readings and capacity of the lagoon. Elmer stated that his recirculating pump was damaged in the ice storm. While it was at the manufacturers for repairs, Elmer had to water his pits with well water AND that area has approached the chronic rains exception. Those factors compiled to raise his lagoon level unusually high for what it has been over the years. The actual freeboard could not be determined at the time of inspection. it appeared to be a foot or less. The sludge should be evaluated every 5 years. Elmer stated he checked it last year and it was hard bottom everywhere but around the outlet pipes from the barns, where it was about 3 inches build-up. The settleing was projected to be 5% adjacent to the barns and 10% on the opposite side where the emergency spillway is.
