5 pressure sand filters and sedimentation basins. The filter backwash is discharged to a 97,000 gallon basin. Settled water is recycled back into the water treatment process. The system does not typically discharge except during annual maintenance. The basin is drained once a year over a 15 hour period. Accumulated sludge is collected and land applied. Discharge is analyzed for pH, TSS and chlorine residual by the City of Pikeville's WWTP lab. Metals ( Al and Fe ) are analyzed by a contract lab. There was an exceedance of Aluminum (0.966mg/L)/ 0.75 mg/L in the September 2020 sample. The exceedance was attributed to sampling error. Outfall signage is in place. There was no evidence of pollutants entering the wet weather conveyance leading to the receiving stream.
