Notes
I did a cursory inspection of the STP and Frey Branch to confirm the improvement that had been reported by Bill Crusenberry. I met with the operator, Robert Allen, during my visit.
I found the clarifiers to be functioning much better than during any of my previous visits to this plant. They were producing a fairly clear effluent and the amount of floating scum was much less. Robert explained that, once the new operational scheme was established in mid-March, it took about 3 days to see a significant change in effluent quality. Since then, he has continued to adjust his sludge age to get better treatment, but still there are more adjustments to be made. He expects to see further decreases in the floating scum and elimination of pin floc. I made photographs of the clarifiers.
During the upset that occurred at the time of our CBI in March, much of the influent flow was diverted to the lagoons. That wastewater is still in the lagoons.
Robert and I inspected the outfall at Frey Branch. The effluent at the aeration steps looked very clear. There were no accumulated solids at these steps. I made photos at this point.
Frey Branch was greatly improved in appearance. This could have been due in some part to the two inches of rain that fell over the preceding weekend, but I believe that it was largely due to the improved effluent quality. I made photos at the outfall and further downstream at the Bill Moss Road crossing.
