Notes
Met with Greg Smith and Steve Elkins of Caryville-Jacksboro. The plant conducts 7 fecals at the beginning of the year to meet pathogen reduction and performs additional fecal testing and SOUR monthly to verify compliance. During winter months solids are not pumped from digester. When application is to take place solids are pumped then belt pressed before hauling to application sites. On site, if the solids are to be stockpiled, they are enclosed in fenced in containment areas to restrict access. Land app sites did not have any water quality setbacks just grazing restrictions that were adhered to. They have never had any issue with complaints and do not have much issue with acquiring landbase. Wood Farm uses a small spreader and applies it himself, Rice and Mundy sites allow caryville-jax to use their large spreader. Application rate adjusted based on field acreage availability, nutrient need of the crop and load size.
