Routine Inspection. Facility was maintaining all required records except for records of third party manure transfers. Mr. Thompson was aware of the third party record keeping requirements. He indicated he just failed to fill out the paperwork for the one manure transfer he did in 2019.

The marks on the depth marker in the wastewater lagoon have faded and are hard to see. Mr. Thompson is going to re-mark the depth marker. There is good vegetation on the levees around the wastewater lagoons. The height of the vegetation made it difficult to assess the integrity of the levees. Facility should make sure the levees are mowed so they can adequately conduct weekly inspections. The wastewater lagoons are used for emergency wastewater storage only. It has been a few years since they have been used. Mr. Thompson indicated that the nutrient content has gone way down in the wastewater lagoons. Manure wastewater is stored in the pits of the pit barns.

I did not observe any leachate running out from the compost bays of the compost sheds or uncovered hog carcasses at the time of inspection. Facility uses wood chips for a bulking agent. I did observe wood chips out in front of the compost bays. They may have been mostly clean wood chips that fell from the loader as they were adding wood chips to the compost bays. Facility should try to keep all wood chips from the compost piles pushed up in the compost bays.
