TDEC inspectors conducted an inspection on June 23, 2022. This inspection was conducted after the facility operator had performed stabilization work at the site. At the time of inspection there was no active mining at the facility. The damaged stream crossing at 35.6789, -85.0310 had been removed; however, the streambanks at the site of the former crossing were left as unstabilized soil that was falling into the stream (Photos 1 &2) causing a condition of pollution. The site was more vegetated then during previous inspections but there were still large areas of the former quarry that needed vegetation. A pallet of hydraulic fluid and an open barrel of some petroleum product were observed on site. The operator needs to stabilize the former stream crossing with vegetation or native rocks, vegetate all areas that drain towards the stream, and remove the pallets of petroleum products to eliminate the potential discharge of pollutants.
