Notes
Below notes taken from the inspection report dated 1/14/2020.
-Met Justin Givens, Landfill Manager of the Matlock Bend facility at the scale house just up from the entrance to the landfill.
-Started inspection with a verbal overview given by Mr. Givens of the Matlock Bend facility wheel washing procedures.
-The wheel wash is located approximately 1/8 mile uphill from the scale house on a gravel road. The wheel wash itself is not a pressurized system, but rather a concrete trench filled with water that allows vehicles to travel through to remove debris/sediment. The debris/sediment is routed to a concrete holding pit that is approximately 5.0’ wide x 8.0’ deep. The accumulated sediment is removed from this structure, when necessary, by a skid steer and is taken to an approved facility storage area.
-When the wheel wash water becomes ineffective it is pumped to the facility water treatment plant. Once the water is removed, the trench is filled with nonportable, but clean, water. These cleaning out procedures can occur up to four times daily, depending on road conditions and usage.
-Along with the trench system, 3 pressurized hoses, powered by portable generators, are located at different locations at the wheel wash. These additional tools can aid in the process of debris/sediment removal from vehicles. These tools are powered by facility workers when needed.
