Notes
Inspection conducted as a routine inspection. Site was not active at time of inspection. This mine site has been mined out. Drainage is controlled through basins or in-pit storage. It appears that any overflow from Pond 3 will flow to Pond No. 1 where Outfall 001 is located. There was no discharge observed at Outfall 001. The water level in the sediment basin at Outfall 001 was within 1-1.5 feet of discharging at time of inspection. Outfall 001 should be monitored for a discharge and samples collected if a discharge occurs. The drainage in the mine area on the north side of U.S. Hwy 70 East is controlled through in-pit containment. I did not see a constructed discharge point for Outfall 002. The different mine voids are made to where if they caught enough water to discharge it goes to what appears to be a former mine void in the southwest portion of the site on the north side of U.S. Hwy 70 East. There was no clear discharge point from this former mine void and it was not close to overflowing. The NPDES permit for this facility expires January 31, 2022. A renewal application should be submitted as soon as possible to the Mining Unit in the Knoxville Environmental Field Office, if it has not already been submitted.
