Minor Deficiency Noted
I made a visit to Whiteville's STP to ask about recent high Cl2 readings.

Robert Bonds, the Assistant Wastewater Manager said Whiteville had dechlorinated with sulfur dioxide gas for years with no problems. After switching to 30% calcium thiosulfate there were no problems for about 6 weeks. It was after heavy rains caused the effluent flow to increase that they experienced the Cl2 violations. After a few days they were able to reconnect the sulfur dioxide gas and have had no more chlorine excursions.

Whiteville has experienced some high effluent ammonia readings during April. Mr. Bonds said a valve was opened and forgotten causing the plant to waste too much sludge. He said he had not wasted in a week and a half and the oxidation ditch was slowly returning to normal.
