BNG went out to investigate the cause of odor from numerous residential complaints and to make sure no permit violations or exceedances were occurring. BNG met with Alan Coker and Harvey Ellis on site at the Oakland STP. There were no violations or exceedances observed. However, there was excessive foam present in the digester and the SBR system. Mr. Coker stated that the foam was due to the Nocardia bacteria and said that the plant experiences this type of event every year. He also stated that the excess bacteria should settle out around the spring time during March. BNG offered suggestions and aid from the Fleming Training Center to help with plant/bacteria optimization.
