Notes
Inspection was conducted as a routine inspection. Facility was maintaining most of the required records. Facility was not documenting weather conditions 24 hours prior, during, and 24 hours after manure applications. There was around 3.5ft. of freeboard in the wastewater lagoon at the finisher barns. There was a depth marker present in the wastewater lagoon; however it was difficult to read. Facility indicated they could install a new depth marker. I observed water from the misters dripping from the curtains to the outside of the finisher barns. Requested facility to look at adjusting misters so there is not as much water hitting the curtains and dripping to the outside. I did not observe a rain gauge installed at the facility at time of inspection. The personnel who typically oversee this site was on vacation. Facility indicated they would check with them and if there is not one on-site they would have one installed. The sow/nursery barns are no longer being used. The wastewater lagoon for the sow/nursery barns did not have the typical reddish-brown color to it that you see with most hog wastewater lagoons. There appeared to be well over 4ft. of freeboard in the wastewater lagoon for the sow/nursery barns. It appears the depth marker may have fell over. On-site personnel did not know if the wastewater lagoon will be utilized again in the future. The NPDES permit has expired. Facility needs to update CNMP and submit NPDES permit application to obtain permit coverage.
