Facility personnel are considering options for permanent repairs/replacement of chlorine contact basin and possible alternative methods of disinfection. If the facility continues with chlorine disinfection, they will install fiberglass baffle walls. They are also considering replacing the contact chamber with a UV system.
2nd day of CSI (8/13/19) - foam source had entered the influent stream, becoming apparent in the oxidation ditch and traveling through the entire system. The bubbles were ridged with a slight sheen. The foam was not observed the previous day and had dissipated by atleast 75% by 8/16/19. Facility personnel suspect the foam’s source could be entering the WWTP through a wastewater stream from a new industrial user that manufactures composite quartz countertops. This foam has entered the treatment system before and did not appear to affect treatment as analysis of the effluent remained consistent.
