Mr. Mullin reported that the creek at his residence had a dark brown/black color and s sewer odor since 8/18/14. He called the Mosheim Water Dept. at approximately 6:00 PM on 8/18/14 and was informed that they were not aware of it. SKV informed Mr. Mullin that JKR investigated the creek on 8/18/14 and that RLT was investigating it on 8/19/14. He was also informed that vac trucks were pumping out the creek at the Mosheim sanitary sewer line break location behind McDonalds restaurant. SKV and RLT informed Mr. Mullin on 8/20/14 that the creek was being pumped out 1/2 mile downstream from the break location in a pool area of the creek. Mr. Mullin said he would call in a couple of days if the creek did not clear up.
8/18/14: Jeff Abston reported to Dane Cutshaw that he observed that Mud Creek had a dark color that was possibly due to sewage in the creek. Dane discussed the incident with Kevin Rice (JKR), and JKR made a site visit to investigate. JKR discovered that Mud Creek had a grayish black color with an odor of sewage at several locations along the stream. The color and odor appeared to originate near the Lick Creek Valley (LCV) sewer pump station along Highway 11-E near Tony's Wrecker Service.
8/19/14: JKR discussed the situation with Steve Houserman with Lick Creek Valley. He said that he investigated on 8/18/14 after receiving a complaint from an individual at Mosheim Town Hall and was unable to find a problem. After discussion with JKR, LCV personnel found a split pipe on the discharge side of the pump station along Highway 11-E. While excavating the leak, LCV used two vacuum trucks to remove sewage from Mud Creek at the point where it crossed under Porter Kite Road. Also, a vacuum truck was used to pump sewage from near the leak site. Around 1611 hours on 8/19/14, Mr. Houserman informed JKR that the line had been repaired. He planned to continue to pump from Mud Creek at the Porter Kite Road crossing to attempt to capture as much sewage as possible.
Visited site on 8.20.14. Found that repairs were complete and site was cleaned up. It appeared that all orf the sewage had be vaced up and properly disposed of. RLT
