Complaint Description and Writeup
TEMA forwarded the following: Robertson County EMA R.L. Douglas reported that a sub-division near Sandy Springs Road was pumping their sewage into a lagoon and the wall has ruptured / burst and is now releasing raw sewage into the area which is also flowing into small water ways.****At ~1600 HRS Saturday, February 1, I received a call from Brenda Apple. She had been notified that a waste treatment lagoon had failed in Robertson county off of Sandy Springs Road. I met with the local EMA and was at the site prior to it getting dark. While there I spoke with Tennessee Wastewater/Adenus representatives who own the system. They were actively mitigating the failure of the Maple Green lagoon. TWRA was also on-site and was able to take photos of the creek before it got dark. They did not observe any dead fish. As I understand it sometime early Saturday morning one of the system's alarms had gone off. When Adenus arrived around 0700 HRS the entire content of the lagoon had drained to Millers Creek through a sink hole that had formed near the lagoon's influent. I followed up with Adenus the next day and they informed me that at approximately midnight they had finished constructing a berm across the lagoon and the waste flow has been diverted behind the berm. They plan to bring other equipment to the site Monday to build the berm up to establish more free board.I will continue to monitor the situation. - AMM
