Complaint Description and Writeup
Request and complaint Site # 167786 The Retreats at Snow Hill
After driving past this subdivision that they are supposed to be building, there is what looks like a sinkhole next to the new cemetery on Snow Hill Road. They moved a cemetery from inside this property to right next to Snow Hill Road. Right next to the cemetery, it looks like there is a sinkhole. After looking at all the information on the your website it looks like they are putting a stormwater pond over this possible sinkhole area.
On one of the plans on your website, dated January 5, 2022, it shows a closed contour line area which usually means a sinkhole is there. Since there are several large sinkholes around this area and across the road, this should be looked at before a stormwater pond is put there. If it is a sinkhole then it would have a direct connection to the groundwater and the stormwater could contaminate the groundwater. Plus, Savannah Valley draws our drinking water from Carson Springs which is only about a half a mile from this possible sinkhole. The stormwater pond is called pond #3 (and outfall #3) and it is next to Snow Hill Rd. The outfall is going toward the new cemetery which seems like a bad idea. The plan shows stormwater pond #3 located directly on top of the closed depression contour (sinkhole?)area.
There are some photos attached of the profile of this closed contour depression area taken from the National Map and it looks like a sinkhole. Also attached is a comparison of the stormwater pond #3 to the closed depression area from the information on your website. The comparison is shown because the stormwater pond #3 is covering the closed depression lines making it difficult to see them. Then a picture of the closed depression contour on the HCGIS is attached. Also there is a latitude longitude of the possible sinkhole from the National Map.
Please look at and investigate the possible sinkhole area to see if it is a sinkhole before they are allowed to put a stormwater pond on top of it.
