Complaint Description and Writeup
Ms. Skye Eggers reported that the Mountain City WWTP will not accept her company's septic loads. Ms.Sandra Vance (SKV)-Division of Water Resources (DWR)-Johnson City Environmental Field Office (JCEFO) contacted Mr. Chris Atwood, Mountain City WWTP on 4-13-2023 and was informed that the WWTP has been experiencing interference with the treatment process since late March 2023. The total suspended solids (TSS) has increased from approximately 14-15 mg/L to 35 mg/L. An oil film was also observed on the flow through the WWTP after a septic load was accepted from the Eggers' company on 3-27-2023. Test kits have been ordered for the WWTP and will arrive next week. Ms. Eggers came by the JCEFO on 4-14-2023. She indicated the WWTP would only accept one load per week from her company. She was advised of the preceding information from Mr. Atwood. SKV advised her to ask if only domestic waste was in septic tanks before accepting it. Also, she was advised that any water from cleaning the inside of the pumper truck could not be placed in a creek or on the ground but would have to be taken to a WWTP. She inquired what the test kits consisted of and was advised to contact Mr. Atwood. Finally, she was informed to check with other WWTPs in nearby states on septage acceptance. Mr. Atwood was then contacted and advised that Ms. Eggers had been informed of the WWTP interference and to check for other sources of the interference. He indicated that the WWTP was slowly recovering.
