Description and Writeup
Complainant states that well truck slurry and silt spilling down driveway onto lake front property and directly into Watauga Lake in Butler, TN.
F. Colyer and J. Benton conducted an onsite investigation on March 15, 2024. Upon arrival it was evident material from the well construction site was migrating down a driveway, across Cable Hollow Road, down a boat launch and entering the reservoir. Material had traveled at least 300 feet from well head to reservoir. Material from the construction site had deposited in an area of 15 feet wide and 6 feet long into the reservoir. We spoke with the property owner, Mr. Micheal Rice, and he informed us the driller was Dewey Wright. He mentioned he had a bobcat and would utilize it to clean up the discharge from the driveway and boat ramp to stop further material from entering the reservoir. He also mentioned he had silt fence and would install some at the construction site to help as well.
