Description and Writeup
Greeneville Light and Power (GLP) was installing guy wires for recently installed power poles. GLP drove an anchor into the discharge line for Jarden Zinc's outfall line to the Nolichucky River. A three inch hole was driven into the outfall line. Several thousand gallons of treated wastewater was discharged into a corn field. The contractor put a berm up to keep the water from leaving the property. The line was dug up and repaired. Jarden started to discharge to an emergency outfall to Sinking Creek so that the line could be repaired. Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste visited the site on 7/19/17.
