Description and Writeup
Jonathan Linder (BAE/HSAAP) left voicemail for BBC around 11:00 on 7/1/2019 to report an industrial wastewater release from HSAAP Area A 38A pump station. BBC spoke with Mr. Linder to obtain additional details.
BAE/HSAAP Area A operators noted a loss of industrial sewer line pressure at approximately 03:00 on 6/29/2019. However, no investigation occurred at that time. Water was observed in a man way adjacent to the 38A pump station on 7/1/2019. Investigation revealed wastewater leaking from a corroded compressing fitting on a 3/8" sample line. The wastewater was entering the man way and then overflow onto the ground west of the station. Mr. Linder stated that wastewater may have reached the South Fork Holston River during heavy rainfall over the past weekend, but most of the wastewater likely soaked into the ground before reaching waters. BAE personnel isolated the leaking line and called in Moody Sprinkler to replace the corroded section with stainless steel line.
