Description and Writeup
1-11-17 TEG/JCA responded to a spill notification at Cytec Industries. Cytec was in the process of shipping 2000 gallons of toluene to their wastewater treatment plant. Over the weekend, a pipe had frozen causing a gasket to fail. Majority of the toluene made it to the plant but about 500 gallons sprayed on the ground adjacent to Big Bigby Creek. The liquid that was released had a pH of about 1.9. Big Bigby Creek was monitored for changes in pH at the site and approximately 0.5 miles downstream with the lowest reading being 6.9. Most the toluene had been soaked up with pads. JCA advised Cytec team on once they start to remove soils to make sure that it had not started to migrate and if it has make sure to follow it with the dirt removal.
