Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint Description and Writeup
I received a phone call from an anonymous complainant on 11/28/16. The caller alleged that a farmer, Samuel Jones at 3775 Hickory Grove Rd, Huntland, TN, was illegally disposing of ag chemicals, pesticides and herbicides. The called reported that the farmer would empty out the spray buggy of any left over chemicals on the ground behind his shop area/grain bins. When asked when this event took place the caller said it occurred sometime late last spring or early summer. The caller stated his concern that the chemicals could get into the groundwater. When the reported location is viewed aerially it is approximately 350 yards from the Huntland town well water supply. The caller was advised that due to the length of time since the activity (some 6 months or more) it would be very difficult to investigate at this time. The caller was informed that the complaint would be shared with other state agencies that may have an interest in the complaint.
The Department of Agriculture (TDA), Pesticides program was notified. TDA responded back that they too have no interest at this time to pursue the complaint due to the length of time between the alleged activity and now.
In the event that the complainant calls back regarding this issue he is to be advised that if he sees or hears of the activity occurring again he should report it at once in order that it may be investigated.
