    Complaint Description and Writeup

Complainant states "I passby the upper most end of JPP Hamilton Creek daily. The lake water at this location must be polluted. Algae blooms or worse continue visually evident. A Metro sewage holding facility is located directly across Smith Springs Rd. I strongly suspect this Metro facility has failed or is highly overloaded. I thought Resource Mgt would have alerted you to this. Please let me know what's happening."

JMF Responded to Complainant: "Metro Nashville does have a large sewer pump station at that location. The pump station includes storage tanks to contain excess water during heavy rain events; no sewage should be in the tanks during normal operation, basically just dilute waste during rain events. Despite that, there are still sewage overflows from this pump station on occasion. Nashville is aware and has carried out a number of sewer rehabilitation projects upstream of this location to reduce the sources of excess flow, and has several more projects planned in the future. Lots of details can be found at https://www.cleanwaternashville.org/project-map. Looking at our records, they have only reported 4 overflows from this pump station in the last two years, however the most recent was reported September of this year.

Nashville has flow monitoring all throughout their system. I would be surprised if there was a leak of any meaningful volume that they wouldn’t have noted and reported, but it’s not impossible.

I’ve cc’d the inspector currently assigned to Metro Central STP, that this pump station eventually goes to. Please let me know if there are additional questions or concerns and we can loop in anyone else that seems necessary."

12/3/24 Phone call to Metro Brent Freeman, will send crew to check area and CCTV lines to see if possible pipe damage
