Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint Description and Writeup
complaint: She is at 103 Pleasant Hill Dr, Springfield. 1/15/11 sewage backed up into the basement for the 4th time. It was about 1' deep. Springfield said to get someone to clean it up. She said the city gave her some kind of letter that said they would take care of it. Now Roger Leamasters says they won't. She had someone pump the water out & take up carpets & flooring in kitchen area. There is a living area in the basement. They also took out wet boxes from the ceramics area. A couch, love seat, dinette & TV also damaged but still there. They did all her ins would pay for. ***
On 2/11/11, MRT called Lemasters about this sewage backup. He said 1 of the 4 times there were roots in her service line. It was submitted to their ins - TN Municipal League (TML). TML will make a determination. If the city should have known this was possible, TML won't pay the claim. ***
On 2/17/11, Teasley called. She had a letter from TML saying they weren't paying the claim. Letter said Springfield was cleaning this line monthly. She said when she came home around 12/31/10, the city had dug a hole by her driveway. The man told her they were intalling a flapper to prevent sewer backups. The sewer backup to her basement happened 1/15/11. She found out they hadn't installed the flapper. They installed it on 1/18/11. She will fax me the TML letter & the 1st notice from the city. ***
MRT called Lemasters on 2/24/11 & 2/25/11 & left message. ***
On 2/28/11, MRT spoke w/Lemasters. He said about 90% of problems in this area were due to grease. They think street vendors are cooking in their homes. City has purchased 1000 AWWA grease brochures to distribute in areas w/grease problems. No other sewer projects in this area. They have not been reporting sewer backup into homes as overflows but will start.
