Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint Description and Writeup
5/22/2024 - RAB - Complainant states that their well has gas. When the well owner told the driller about it, driller said it was stale water or sulfur and they just needed to run the water to get fresh water. However, when that didn’t work, driller did come out to test the water and said that it was gas. Driller set up a pump on top of the well with some type of float system that has been pumping water out of the well. Driller has been back to sample the well some more, and each time have said that the gas level is decreasing but not to the satisfaction of the well owner. Other than the gas complaint, the well owner says that driller has not been good about returning their calls, telling them when they’ll be out to the property to test the well, or sharing the test results with the well owner.
The house has been built for 4 months but the well owners haven't been able to move into the house because there is gas in the well which prevents the house from passing final inspection, and the gas in the well makes the water undrinkable.
5/31/2024 - RAB - 5/28 & 5/29/2024 RAB reviewed driller report and spoke with driller and well owner. From the day that the odor was detected on 2/15/2024 to the well owner's last update on 5/13/2024, the odor is now barely detectable. This was confirmed by the driller and his operator has been checking on and testing the well every week.
RAB spoke with driller and well owner and gave them possible options:
- Wait longer
- Possibility of a treatment system
- Try to seal off the gas by backfilling the bottom portion of the well, or
- Close the well.
Driller will speak to the well owner about options to resolve this issue. Driller will update RAB about the well and the conversation with the well owner.
6/13/2024 - RAB - Driller emailed RAB to give status update. Although the odor had decreased significantly, water testing indicated that gas was still present in the water. Driller and well owner discussed options and well owner decided to contact a licensed treatment system installer to have a water treatment system put in place to treat for the remaining gas in the well.
6/21/2024 - RAB - Driller emailed RAB to say that the well owner had contacted Gilbert Lovell with Rock City Machine to conduct the treatment system installation.
