Complaint Description and Writeup
Mr. Ken Scofield, Tony's Wrecker Service reported that at approximately 3:00 AM on 5-7-15 an employee noticed sewage spraying from a pump station onto the business's parking lot. The sewage also sprayed onto cars in the parking lot. Mr. Scofield was concerned with the sewage in the parking lot and on the cars. Mosheim WWTP personnel went to the business and stopped the spraying from the pump station. Mr. Steve Holzerman, Mosheim WWTP reported the overflow via a 7:17 AM voice mail to SKV. SKV contacted Mr. Holzerman who said a diesel backup pump was placed earlier at the pump station due to a control problem with the pumps in the pump station. A hole developed in the hose connecting the backup pump to the force main last night causing the overflow. SKV informed Mr. Holzerman that the sewage in the parking lot had to be cleaned up. Mr. Holzerman said that the sewage in the gravel parking lot would be scraped up and the cars washed. A vac truck would be used to clean up any sewage that was in Mud Creek beside the business. SKV advised Mr. Holzerman that a written report would have to be submitted to the Johnson City EFO within 5 working days of the overflow. Mr. Holzerman will keep SKV informed of the cleanup progress. SKV contacted Mr. Scofield and informed him of the preceding information about the planned cleanup. The report received 5-13-15 indicated the overflow went from 2:30-3:00 AM on 5-7-15 with an unknown overflow amount. The report also indicated the following cause, "Hose on backup diesel pump developed a quarter size hole in it." and that the Town made the repairs. SKV contacted Mr. Holzerman on 6-3-15 about the cleanup of the overflow. He said the gravel in the parking lot was scraped to the dirt and the material taken to the Mosheim WWTP's drying beds. In the parking lot lime was placed over the dirt and then new gravel was placed over the lime.
