Complaint Description and Writeup
Beverly Brown advised BBC of sanitary sewer overflows observed in Sneedville on 12/8/2014. Multiple points of overflow from manholes and emerging from the ground were observed by Ms. Brown and Robert Tipton in the vicinity of the main pump station near Greasy Rock Creek behind the Sneedville STP. Division personnel notified the onsite treatment plant operator of the overflows at the time of discovery, and BBC advised the contracted operator, Jesse Thompson of Waste Water Specialist, of the overflows via email on 12/8/2014. The onsite operator was not aware of the overflow before division personnel notified him. Division personnel noted recent heavy rainfall in the area, and the onsite operator indicated the treatment plant was receiving ca. 600,000 gpd of influent flow at the time.
In a follow up response, Mr. Thompson indicated the overflow likely resulted because of a control system problem rendering one pump in the duplex station inoperable. Repairs were made and the pump returned to operation.
