Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint concerning degradation unnamed trib of South Fork of Holston River. Complainant stated via email that "The aggregate dust has completely covered the stream bed with a gray matter."
10/31/16: Site investigation by JAB. Met with complainant and showed me area of unnamed trib that was of concern. Was unable to get directly next to trib due to fencing, but I was able to observe trib from approx. 20 feet away. Trib looked to have decaying leaf litter in it, was able to observe fish from a distance. Did not observe any excessive aggregate dust in the area or in the stream (obtained photos of stream and surrounding area). There is a drainage culvert (half pipe) that leads to area of concern. Drainage is from roadside (Airport Parkway), has recently been cleared of vegetation. I then drove to the Aggregate USA office at the quarry and reviewed their DMRs and logs. They have not discharged this calendar year. Obtained photos of their basin and discharge monitoring point (001). I did not observe any signs of discharge at the point and the basin looks to be approx. one foot below normal pool level (photos of DMP 001 and basin).
Note: Refer to power point document for images of investigation.
Beverley Brown (Env Consultant) will be looking at trib to note any concerns.
11/1/16: Beverley Brown confirmed that while unnamed trib is not in great condition, it does not appear to be from a point source discharge from the quarry or nearby asphalt plant.
