Description and Writeup
Milton Beard called in a discharge notification for his dairy on 5-1-17. JCA and SRG investigated. The pipe leading from Pond #2 to the flushing tank had broken, allowing waste to discharge to UNT Potts Branch. The waste left the property from two directions. The first was between Ponds #2 and #3. The other was between pond #3 and the flushing tank. Both paths of waste led to the headwaters of the UNT to Potts Branch.
Samples were collected in the UNT to Pott's and in Pott's Branch above the confluence with Lick Creek. The water in UNT to Pott's Creek and in Potts Creek was dark black/gray and foamy. There was a plume of black turbid water entering Lick Creek. A dead fish was spotted in the plume.
TWRA was notified of the discharge and dead fish on 5/2/17.
