Description and Writeup
Complainant states that they fish the Southfork of the Holston River regularly. I am concerned about a pipe dumping a white / brown stinky substance in the river just above the Riverfront restaurant near Domtar. I have observed this for the past 2 years. This year it seems to have gotten much worse. The photo I am sending you is from June 8th this year. I am just a concerned outdoors men and the health of our rivers and wildlife. NOV sent on July 19, 2024.
Tina Robinson conducted a site investigation on 7-8-2024. Met on site with Domtar personnel and looked at the diffuser pipe while discharging a light tan colored effluent. The area immediately below the diffuser pipe has a white coated slimy substrate for about 100 feet downstream and extends across the river. There is no white coated slimy substrate observed upstream of the diffuser pipe. Domtar collected a white slimy coated rock from downstream the discharge for analysis. Domtar was also going to collect an effluent sample.
