Complaint Description and Writeup
Step system in yard of foreclosed house has raw sewage overflowing in yard. sewage is deep in yard and appears to be coming back in from sanitary sewage line at street since house is vacant.
JMW talked with John Mitchell of Anderson County Water Authority on 7-16-2014. ACWA owns the pressure system for this neighborhood, with the exception of the customer owned STEP tank and pump and the line from the STEP to the utility's pressure system running along the roads. This problem actually occurred 132 Loggers Ln, not 200. Between the customer line and the utility pressure line is also a box that has a cutoff valve and a check valve near the road. These check valve had somehow lodged open at this empty house. Thus ww under pressure from the city pressure line flowed back up the private line and out of the cleanout plug near the tank. Yesterday afternoon ACWA personnel closed the cutoff valve near the road and report now that the overflow has ceased. This morning, 7-16-2014, the utility box was repaired by replcing both valves. ACWA personnel report that they have spread deodorant/disinfectant on the affected grounds. JMW advised that he considered the verbal notice over phone as a 24 - hour report, but a five day written overflow report must be suibmitted.
