Complaint Description and Writeup
On June 1, 2022, State Watch Point received notification from NRC report #1337553 of a hazmat water incident, located in the area of the Red River along Kraft Street in Clarksville, TN. The NRC caller reported the release of raw sewage by the SRP to the waterway near the address provided. The caller reported this was being done using a waste management truck and pumps out the material to the waterway on a regular basis, typically in the late afternoon. The release caused a strong sewage odor from the water to a residential neighborhood. This incident is ongoing.
From City of Clarksville on 6.3.2022: The area that is described sounds like it is very close to our WWTP and similar to the complaint that you sent us a couple of weeks ago. Without an exact address it is hard to determine if there is anything else to this complaint. Davis did spend some time looking in the area for evidence of someone dumping but didn't find anything or even a location that was accessible for someone to dump into the river. I don't doubt that some of the odor they are speaking of is coming from the plant but there is no instance where raw sewage is being dumped by us. We do receive septic trucks at this location that discharge into our headworks. We would be more than happy to meet you in the field or at the plant if you need to look further into these complaints.
