Description and Writeup
Via emial...."I am reporting a much stronger-than-usual odor, which I think is coming from the Domtar lagoon. I live at 437 High Ridge Road in Kingsport's Ridgefields community. I've lived here for 11 years and am accustomed to some odor. However, in the last several months, since Domtar has resumed operation, the odor is significantly worse.
When inside with doors and windows shut, I can smell this strong odor inside the house. I am now trying to limit heat pump use, to limit bringing the outside air in.
If you drive down Riverport Road, near the lagoon, you will smell this extremely offensive odor.
I'm hoping this can be investigated."
On 4/28/2023 Franklin Colyer investigated the odor complaint by going to Domtar Lagoons, Riverport Road, and High Ridge Road in Kingsport. An odor was noted by it was faint. Not objectional. I also spoke to residents at a convenience store. They have noted some days you will get an odor but not every day. I spoke to Ms. Burton over the phone and told her that I did not notice an overly offensive odor and to please call the field office if she smells it again. She said she would.
On 05/19/2023 Mrs. Burton send Franklin Colyer a text message saying "...For the past 10-12 days odor had been not bad. But yesterday and today it is worse again." FDC informed Mrs. Burton that TDEC does not regulate odors, but we are working with Domtar to address issues and hopefully odor will lessen soon.
