    Complaint Description and Writeup

Complainant states that wastewater was allegedly dumped at 959 Coon Valley Rd. Duvall Landing, Drummonds, TN. Letter and pictures to Gov. Lee and Commissioner Salyers uploaded to site page.

7/26/24: BFS1 and ARB traveled to the site to investigate the issue. A moderately strong smell of sewage was noted at the location of picture #2 (35° 30' 47.682" N, 89° 57' 11.772" W), which was provided by the complainant. Though no odor was noted at the location of the other pictures provided, water from the location of picture #2 could be seen flowing to the other sites and into the Mississippi River. After the initial site visit, BFS and ARB traveled to Mid-South Suppliers, located immediately east of the complaint site, to ask about the reported septic dumping. They spoke with Ron at the front desk who stated that Shannon Reed of Tipton County Public Works had been to the site earlier in the week to investigate the issue.

8/5/24: BFS1 spoke with Shannon Reed via phone. Mr. Reed stated that there is a washing area for Mid-South Suppliers' trucks at the back of their facility. He stated that wash water will pool up in an area in the woods, and he believes the stagnant, odorous water will flow toward Duvall Landing when a rain event occurs. He stated that the company hauls road salt and sugar products, in addition to rock products, and these nutrients may add to the biological composition of the stagnant water. He has a plan with Mid-South to change this wash area so that the water does not pool up and cause this issue. BFS1 asked for Mr. Reed to keep him informed in the future regarding these plans and the actions taken.

Tipton County Public Works is aware of the issue and is working with Mid-South Suppliers to resolve the problem. This complaint is being referred to TCPW for resolution.
