Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint Description and Writeup
Good Morning,
I am hoping you can help me and/or lead me to someone that can.
We recently conducted an inspection at EuroStone LLC located at 805 NW Broad Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. Multiple subcontractors work at the location including Roman Silva Velazquez dba Granite & Marble Guys. At the site the fabricate various stone / engineered stone for countertops. TOSHA has issued multiple citations to both employers. However we are very concerned about the water they utilize to cut and polish stone.
The respirable crystalline silica water filtration and recirculation system was present but not operating in the fabrication shop. The water in the system to had a cloudy, milky, foamy appearance, and carries a bad odor which was potentially due to a high concentration of respirable crystalline silica dust and bacteria build up from fabrication processes. We have concern the water has a high concentration of waterborne contaminates that when aerosolized could potentially make some one ill or worse.
Employees tools to fabricate/ polish stone recycle this water and the aerosolization of airborne particles produced a contaminated mist in the workplace. Respirable crystalline silica dust coated the facility walls and garage doors. While employees watered the floors with a hose, respirable crystalline silica residue was washed across the facility floors, through the open facility door, and down the road more than one block away.
The building was previously a vehicle oil change facility; the floor pit functioned as an oil pit that oil change employees had previously performed vehicle maintenance tasks in. The oil change pit is currently flooded with water that employees recirculate water without filtering or changing the water.
The complaint email included pictures which show white deposits in the storm culvert. Forwarded the complaint to the Murfreesboro MS4 program coordinator.
