Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint of blue green algae and sewage smell from lake. Mr. Frank wants WPC staff to stop by and document condition.
Mr. Frank has observed a blue-green algae bloom in Lake Hiawatha caused in part by unseasonably warm temperatures. The blue-green algae in the lake are blown around by the wind and can collect on leaves and vegetation in the shallows. The blue-green algae that have collected on the leaves begin to decompose once out of the water. The green chlorophyll is the first pigment to decompose giving the algae a blue color. Mr. Frank spent most of the time asking questions about the STP discharge to Lake Hiawatha and his apartment complex's field drains for the septic system. I explained that Wade Murphy (WPC) could answer his questions regarding the STP discharge, and that he should contact Jim Teeple (GWP) for information on the septic field drains. Division staff made no attempt to comment on the STP Permit or GWP issues at the site.
