Information provided in email forwarded from Anna Sartors. I’ve just received a call from Tim who has sampled chlorine levels at the Marriott. He said he is getting high results (6.0) and wants to know where his nearest injection point is located. Has there been a repair or anything where Metro would have needed more chlorine?
Metro Water Services (MWS) has conducted a complaint investigation at the Marriott Airport, for high chlorine residual. Below is the timeline and actions taken.
On September 2, 2015 William “Butch” Bryant of MWS met Tim Chavers and Dave Huber of the Marriott on site. Butch measured the Chlorine residual at Fire hydrant (FH) #12287, and got a free chlorine residual of 2.2 mg/l. At a mop sink in the Marriott he measured 2.3 – 2.4 mg/l and the Marriott got 5.6 – 5.8 mg/l. He scheduled System Services (SSD) out to flush and capture more residuals on the next day to verify.
On Thursday, September 3, 2015 SSD flushed FH# 12278 and got a residual of 2.1 mg/l. That same day Victoria McClellan (MWS) met Dave Huber (Marriott) to compare residuals. Dave Huber measured a 3.03 mg/l and Victoria measured a 2.6 mg/l. They performed a second analysis, and Dave measured a 2.37 mg/l and Victoria measured a 2.4 mg/l.
The Marriott did not have a standard for calibration of their Nalco meter. I believe they have since figured that out , and that is why the readings were much closer on the second round. Metro Water Services did not measure any chlorine residuals that would indicate as high as the Marriott was measuring. As a matter of fact we did not record anything over a 3.0 mg/l.
Based on the investigation we believe that the Marriott had problem with their meter calibration. This caused them to read almost twice the actual residual.
