Description and Writeup
Complainant relayed information from a TV news story about backup of sewage into a residence on Stones River Road & was concerned that it wasn't properly addressed, & asked if it was reported to the DWR as required. ***
2/2/16, a check of overflow report records found that it had not been reported. ***
2/2/16, I contacted Michael Dietz, collection system certified operator. He confirmed that the overflow had not been called in to DWR or reported at the end of the month. He was on vacation that week & the situation was handled by others. Sewage backed up into residences at 283 Stones River Rd. (Gertrude Phillips, 615-793-6335) & at 287 Stones River Rd. next door (615-542-2469). There was a blockage in a sewer main at the next manhole downstream of these homes. City personnel flushed the line with a pressure washer to remove sludge & grease. They are checking lines in this area to prevent other problems. City personnel are not allowed to go inside residences so they couldn't verify any damage or do cleanup. The city's insurance company, Tennessee Municipal League, said the city wasn't liable & wouldn't pay any claim for damages, so the city believed they weren't responsible for the overflow into the homes. He said the residents hired a cleaning company to clean the contaminated areas inside the homes.
