    Description and Writeup

Complainant forwarded photos of overflowing AST to Cindy Patton, who emailed MEFO/WPC manager. Spill location is apparently near a channel (stream?).

8/17/09: Complaint was referred to Jason Simpson with the Division of Solid Waste/MEFO. Mr. Simpson will investigate the complaint and report the findings. In the meantime, EKB contacted Donnie Wallace, Maintenance Superintendent for Tipton County Schools, who informed EKB that he would be sending a crew to remedy the situation and coordinate the cleanup with Mr. Simpson.

8/19/09: Mr. Simpson investigated the complaint. The stained area near the diesel tank was being excavated and placed on a plastic sheet pending disposal profile. The diesel tank and the secondary containment were not leaking. According to Mr. Simpson, years of incidental spills during the fueling of the school buses had caused the stained area. Also according to Mr. Simpson, waters of the State were not impacted since the nearest wet weather conveyance to the site is 150 yards away.

8/19/09: EKB met in person with the complainant, Mr. Groce, and informed him of the clean-up progress at the school. Mr. Groce was satisfied with the cleanup actions that were taken.

8/23/09: Mr. Simpson revisited the site to check on the cleanup progress. The stained area was excavated and placed on a plastic sheet. Clean dirt was used to backfill the area. Contaminated soil will be hauled to a local landfill for disposal as advised by DSW.
