Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint = discolored flowing water to unknown ditch along Murfreesboro Road (US 231 south). MS4 believes that the discharge came from the Hoover quarry.
2/11/10, MRT met Ken House, Wilson County MS4, on Hwy 231 by Hoover outfall ditch. House explained that he had observed milky colored discharge from the 001 outfall pipe. He had also seen some discolored flow from the area just north of the drainage under Hwy 231. MRT inspected the Hoover site. Vulcan property extends south between Hwy 231 & Hoover. The berm between Hoover & Vulcan just north of the drainage under Hwy 231 had been breached. It appeared that there was some sediment runoff from this area. The berm was replaced during the inspection. Outfall 001 is pumped from the quarry pit. The pumps are on a floating platform near the SW corner of the pit. The pit was flooded in that area & close inspection of the pumps was not possible. The 001 discharge was slightly discolored but didn't appear to be contributing solids. There was considerable solids in the areas below the 001 outfall. There was a small ditch but mostly unconsolidated flow in the area. Reworking the outfall ditch was reccomended. There was some sediment washing down the entry road & accumulating at Hwy 231. Work on this area was reccommended.
2/26/10, MRT visited the site again to check the outfall stream west of Hwy 231. 001 flows into a 4x6 box culvert which goes under Hwy 231 & Lojac. West of Lojac the flow comes out a 36" CMP about 20' east of Old Murfreesboro Rd (OMR). 1 CMP was found east of OMR & 2 CMPs west of OMR. Both CMPs were at least half full of gravel. Some gravel was seen in the ditch west of OMR. MRT was unable to visit the Lojac site as they were closed.
