Complaint Description and Writeup
Columbia TDEC field office forwarded this email for investigation "...received a phone call from Greg 931-981-2858. He would like to remain anonymous. He has noticed a sewage smell on the west side of Columbia. It began about 6 months ago when the state cleaned some debris from Bigby Creek at Hwy 31 and James Campbell Blvd, where he thinks is a sewage outlet or they may have hit a line. He has lived here 5 years and not experienced this smell until then and at times it is over a 4-5 mile area. He has contacted the city treatment plant, the city, and the mayor’s office only to get a run around that the smell is being carried by the wind or no response at all. But he smells it when the wind isn’t blowing. He says others have filed complaints about this, and he has spoken to an attorney to press suit if there’s no resolve. He wanted to contact the state so we can look into it first. Not sure if it’s related to the city’s treatment system, or a private system."
