Complaint Description and Writeup
Complaint Description and Writeup
Mr. Beard called and spoke to DAL on 11-3-16 about a small release of waste onto one of his fields. He wanted someone from our office to meet him on site to advise him on what actions he should take.
JCA and DAL met with Mr. Beard at 3pm later that day. We drove to field Hfr P2 on Beard Road, where the discharge had taken place the previous evening. The cause of the discharge was a broken riser connected to the pipe used to deliver waste to his fields for land application. Approximately 100 to 200 gallons of waste had been lost. Most of the waste had soaked into the ground around the riser. A small amount had migrated approximately 100 feet downhill.
Mr. Beard was informed that because the discharge was not from a waste retention structure, and because the waste had not reached a waterbody, he was not required to notify our office, nor was he required to collect samples.
