Complaint called and stated that the water in the channel that cuts through the property is black and the cows are dying. The channel on the property receives drainage from the lumber mill across the street and that when it rains the water in the channel turns black and cows die. Property owner said that they are awaiting water test results from sample taken after death. After looking in WL, this site (9666) has inactive TMSP coverage but still an active, uncovered sawmill. william howell lives on the property in question - 16660 hwy 125 s Bolivar,Tn 38008
NMB and TRS investigated two unnamed tributaries to Dry Branch that are downstream of the lumber mill. The tributary at 35.21982, -88.95131 showed signs of pollution (low dissolved oxygen, scummy dark-colored film on streambed) typical of sawmill runoff. The property owner stated that the tributary is flashy and was discolored after heavy rains. The lumber mill does not currently have TMSP coverage but is required to do so. A letter will be sent to them.
