Notes
Inspection conducted at request of Enforcement and Compliance to check on current status of the site. The site was not active. The facility is finished mining at the property but still needs to complete reclamation. There was a discharge observed at DMP 34.01. Facility indicated they had not yet collected a sample at this DMP for the first half of the month. I indicated to the facility they should collect a sample since it was discharging. The water in the treatment pond at Outfall 34.01 appeared clear at time of inspection. Slopes along the southwestern and western permit boundaries are still not stable. Additional vegetation is now on the slopes however, there are gullied areas, and the silt fence is no longer standing. The slopes above where the sediment loss to the wetland occurred in the western portion of the site are still not stable. There are significant gullies that have formed with no erosion controls installed to prevent sediment loss to the wetland. The diversion ditch which carries stormwater from the southern portion of the site to the mine void in the northern portion of the site is eroding and getting wider. Part of the road that ran along the top of the western slope has collapsed into the diversion ditch. I indicated to the facility they needed to keep an eye on it to make sure it does not continue to widen and start eroding the western slope. For additional information regarding inspection pleaser refer to the 9-6-23 Inspection Document on the dataviewer.
