This facility was inspected on August 17, 2021 in response to an NPDES modification application. At the time of inspection some areas in the stockpiled outslopes were experiencing erosion that overwhelmed the rock buttress at the base of the slope, causing material to migrate into the wooded area surrounding the quarry. Methods to address these issues including sloping back/removing material or reinforcing/installing the rock buttress in areas where it was lacking was discussed on site with the plant manager and Jeremy Harris. Additionally, quarrying in the southwest corner of the facility has extended past the current permit boundary by approximately 120-150 feet. The permittee has submitted a modification application to expand the permit boundary and capture that area. A potential stream was identified in the proposed expansion area, and a hydrological determination should be performed as part of the permit modification.

No impacts to waters of the state were documented during this inspection, but it will be deemed out of compliance until the NPDES permit modification is obtained to capture all mining activity within the permit boundary, and berm/outslope maintenance has been completed.
