Notes
TDEC scientist Chris Pracheil, conducted a site inspection at the permittee responsible mitigation site with Vulcan representative Brandon Myers. The inspection was conducted after the installation of in-stream structures and bank stabilization activities were completed. All in-stream structures (large woody debris, boulders, rock riffles, undercut banks) were properly installed and functioning as designed. Streambed disturbance was minimal at the location of the in-stream structures and stream banks were properly regraded and stabilized with vegetation and biodegradable erosional mats.
Stream bank stabilization sites were properly graded and seeded and stabilized. In areas where more intensive streambank erosion was observed, large woody debris and native boulders were keyed into the stream bank to provide additional erosional protection. All disturbed areas were properly seeded with annual grasses and a riparian seed mix; bio-degradable erosional matting was also used along areas most likely to experience erosion. The invasive species removal activities have substantially reduced the amount of invasive plant cover in the riparian zone and live stake and bare root plantings of riparian trees and shrubs are scheduled for the spring.
