Notes
GWH visited site on 2/13/23 and met with James Reavis, superintendent at this quarry and explained reason for visit. An investigation at the outfall to Goose Creek was conducted. Rocks were coated with slurry fines along the stream back and in the stream below the outfall. A temporary settling basin had been constructed in the pit to contain ground water that seeps into the pit walls in various locations. On Wednesday 2/8/23, new floats had been placed into the 15 ft. basin. It was determined during the investigation that the low level float had been placed too low in the basin and when activated was releasing wastewater causing an illicit discharge to Goose Creek. The pump system was shut down during the investigation. There was no discharge occurring during the investigation. The low level float will be adjusted to resolve the issue. GWH received a call from Mr. Reavis on 2/14/23 that the float issue had been resolved , photos taken on 2/14/23 showed that the stream had cleared up after action was taken.
