LCK met with Douglas Sawyer in response to NPDES permit renewal application. The outfall has previously been permitted as discharging to an underground cave within the site. As TDEC procedures for Underground Injection Control permits have changed, an inspection was scheduled to see if this discharge point should be relocated. The cave appears to be hydraulically separated from mine wastewater, so no site alterations should be necessary to relocate the outfall. During the inspection several areas were noted that had the potential to discharge, though were not discharging at the time. None of these areas were associated with mining activities and were all part of the highway department activities. It is suggested to remove these areas from the permit boundary. Even though the site is in compliance with the issued permit and approved plans, it is being marked as not in compliance because the plans do not adhere to TDEC Rules & Regs. This will be changed once modification application materials are received.
