Most of the trees have been cleared within the Mine 7 permit boundary.

A pit has been dug within the Mine 7 permit boundary. Evidence of stormwater discharge was observed coming from the pit on the day of inspection on 3/08/18. On the day of inspection there was some confusion has to whether or not the pit was located in TN or MS. On 3/09/18, it was confirmed per phone conversation with Greg Greene with EP Minerals that the pit was within the Mine 7 permit boundary in TN. There are no permitted outfalls in TN for Mine 7. All drainage from Mine 7 is supposed to be directed to a permitted mine in MS. In addition, sediment loss from the pit has also occurred. The sediment has crossed the Mine 7 permit boundary and entered into MS. Per a phone conversation with Greg Greene with EP Minerals, the property which the sediment was lost to in MS is not owned by EP Minerals and is not covered by a MS mine permit. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) will be notified of the discharge and sediment loss into MS. A Notice of Violation for unpermitted discharge and loss of sediment past the mine permit boundary will be sent to the facility.
