Notes
Site was active at time of inspection. KFO Mining Section Staff members Logan Kennedy and Dan Murray were present during the inspection. Mr. Tim Clark with Meridian Bricks, LLC. accompanied us on the inspection. Inspection was conducted as a routine inspection as a part of the permit renewal process. Boral Bricks and Forterra Bricks merged into Meridian Brick. Facility is in process of transferring name on permit from Boral Bricks, LLC. to Meridian Bricks, LLC. Facility was working to construct a new sediment pond at time of inspection. Facility was stockpiling material excavated to use as filler in their manufacturing process. Outfall 002 will be re-located to the southwest corner of the new sediment pond once constructed. Currently Outfall 002 is located on the west/northwest side of Sediment Pond 3. Outfall 002 was not discharging at time of inspection. Sediment Pond 3 will drain via spillway to the new sediment pond once constructed.
Mine Area A is not active and appears to be mostly vegetated. The water in the sediment ponds in Mine Area A were not turbid at the time of inspection. Mr. Clark indicated there were several types of fish in the former sediment ponds in Mine Area A. Discussed with Mr. Clark about possibly doing grade/bond release on Mine Area A if the facility does not plan to conduct anymore mining activities in Mine Area A. Mr. Clark indicated they would look closer at possibly releasing some area during the next permit renewal.
